“And we know all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose.” Romans 8:28
It’s been some time since I have written an article for this blog. As you may have noticed, the name has changed. I resigned my previous pastoral position and I now pastor Amazing Grace Fellowship in Alba. The last 6 weeks has been a whirlwind of activity. I’m almost sure I met myself on the road the other day. I did take time out to go to Santa Fe and spend a few days with my youngest grandson.
The reasoning for my leaving the previous church is irrelevant. What I want to tell you today is the AMAZING things that have come to pass in a short time.
I am, by nature, an impatient person. God has been showing and teaching me to be a more patient person for many years now. But…He has shown me recently just how fast things progress when we stop trying to do things our way and just hang on to Him for the journey.
Here is a brief summary of the last few weeks. I preached my last sermon on Father’s Day. Submitted my resignation the next day and 6 days later had the first service of the (at the time) unnamed church. We had 45 people show up for that first service in a garage with no air conditioning. It was the most inspiring Worship Service I can ever remember. Old friends and new friends came to be a part of it. We had a short meeting afterwards while we ate hot dogs and had fellowship “one with another.” It was truly amazing.
The following week we met at the Alba Fire Station. That only lasted one Sunday. Seems someone complained to the city secretary. Not a problem, we began planning to organize “God’s” church. One of the members spotted a grown up piece of property just outside of Alba. Every person who visited the location came away with the same feeling. “This is where God wants us to be.” We contacted the owner of the property and within two days had come to an agreement. With his permission, we began to clean up the property. We were under the assumption that we would have to have a water meter and a sewer system installed. God had already provided. While cleaning up we found the water meter next to the building. Another member talked with a previous owner of the property and he was able to direct us to the approximate location of the septic tank. We dug around until we found it. It was in perfect condition. Sonny Hass brought his backhoe and with the help of some of the men from the church connected new sewer lines to the existing line coming from the building.
We had one more service in the garage at a different location. Air conditioning was installed, the restrooms completed and we had our second service in the new church last Sunday. All of this has been remarkable and amazing. When we decided to choose a name for God’s church the name fit the situation. Amazing!! Amazing Grace Fellowship was born.
There is something special going on here. The attitude of the people is as it should be…..”ONE.” A group of people coming together to as one to worship God and tell others the “Good News.”
